The Sheffield Youth Alliance is a growing partnership of organisations working across Sheffield’s youth sector, brought together by a shared commitment to collaboration, inclusion, and high-quality youth work.
Supported by Voluntary Action Sheffield, the Alliance provides a space for local organisations to connect, share insight, and work collectively to strengthen provision for young people.
As the city prepares for the National Youth Strategy, the Sheffield Youth Alliance is helping to build a more coordinated, informed, and innovative youth sector that is better equipped to meet the needs of young people across Sheffield.
Why we have supported the Sheffield Youth Alliance?
Following three open meetings in late 2024, over 50 youth sector representatives agreed to form the Sheffield Youth Alliance to help local organisations connect, collaborate, and prepare for the National Youth Strategy.
The Chief Executive of VAS volunteered to be part of the steering group and has been working to guide the early stages of the development of the alliance.
Members include representatives from Saalik Youth, Mettle, Sheffield Futures, StreetGames, SAYiT, Sheffield City Council Youth Services and Spectrum Gaming.
Voluntary Action Sheffield have also been acting as treasurer for the Alliance and has been holding a small restricted reserve, granted by Sheffield City Council Youth Services, to fund the initial activity of the steering group.
The Vision of the SYA is: Driving collective change and innovation in Sheffield’s youth sector. Our Mission: To support high-quality youth work, develop young people’s life skills, and build a more inclusive community.
What’s Been Done?
A review of youth work in Sheffield was conducted, involving 57 participants. Five reports were produced in May 2025 including a framework, reflections, and an action plan.
A draft vision, mission, and values were created to guide the Sheffield Youth Alliance’s work and this is currently being shared with the wider alliance network to get feedback and identify people who would like to be part of the next phase of development of the SYA.
